First Day of a New YearPosted: August 22, 2013
Today is Mea’s first day of Second Grade. I can’t believe that we are already here. It seems like just yesterday that she came home for the first time, and here we are six years later entering her third year of actual school.
Last night she had an epic melt-down at bedtime. Tears, sobbing, pillow throwing, and the inevitable, “I miss sissys.” For the last week, if she has gotten in trouble, or hasn’t gotten her way it is followed by “I miss Mack” “I miss sissy” and so on.
I am having trouble determining if this is her way of getting out of trouble, or if she is just finding it difficult to truly express her feelings about Mack being gone.
A few minutes ago, Mack called me to find out what time Mea would be awake. She wants to call her before she starts her first day of school. We also made plans to Skype tonight after we get home so we can talk about her first day, and “see” sissy.
On Sunday, after we were done with our grocery shopping she wanted me to “take her to Mack’s new house.” I have tried over and over to explain how far away Mack’s new house is compared to how far her apartment in Yellow State City was to us. I think Mea thinks I am just being mean. I tried to explain eleven hours in the car to her, but her concept of time is still a bit skewed. We are planning a trip in the Spring to go visit. Hopefully after that trip she will actually realize how far eleven hours away is from us.
I think having Mack stay with us for the three weeks between her lease being up in Yellow State City, and leaving for Ohio actually made things harder on Mea than anything. She had her sister to herself for all that time, had a cat again, and then she is just gone. There were a lot of tears last Friday. From Mack, from me, and my Mea, all bawling like little babies.
They were able to get settled into their apartment okay. Things are unpacked, Olive has found her new “favorite” spot, and seems to be settling into Ohio life just fine.
Mack is going to be starting the job hunt soon. She is going to try to get a job on campus, so that hopefully she and her boyfriend will have breaks at the same times. I don’t quite know how that is going to work, but I hope that it does.
This is all for now.
I will post pictures tomorrow of Mea’s first day of Second Grade.
