Take Me Out to the Ball Game…

Today was Mea’s first softball game.  It is currently 55 degrees outside, and sprinkling.  Freezing, if you are a fan in the stands.

She had a few fans.  Daddy had his own baseball games today, so he wasn’t able to be there for her game, but we got to watch her in the parade this morning before he left.  Nana and Papa came to freeze their booties off and cheer their girl on.

Mea did quite well.  Both times she got to bat, she knocked the ball out past the pitcher’s mound.  They don’t keep score at this age, so it’s really mostly about learning to throw, learning to bat, and learning to catch.

The kids are super hilarious.  They all go running after the ball, at least the ones that are paying any attention.  There are always some kids out playing in the dirt, or walking around in circles.

When we got to the fields today, there was a game already going on.  Mea took off running towards the dugout, and before I could catch up with her speedy little self, she ran out onto the field.

Too bad it wasn’t her team out there.

They did have blue shirts, just a slightly different shade of blue.

An easy mistake.

All the coaches of those two teams were super confused.

She was excited.

She’s also too fast.  If she takes off like that, there is not a chance in hell that I can keep up with her.  I need to put her in lead socks or something.

Mea runs home!

She is awfully cute.  Even in all the extra warm weather gear.  You can’t quite tell from this photo, but her helmet was slightly askew all day long.  No one helped her to push it down completely over her ponies.  Kind of bopped her in the head a bit when she was running.

All in all, it was a good day at the ball field.  Good thing the short girls have an equally short season.
