The Last Train to Clarksville

Well, it was the last train to Clarksville today for Davy Jones.  His ride is over.

When I was a kid, I watched all The Monkees rerun’s on MTV, and Nickelodeon in the 80’s.  I don’t know why, but I was kind of obsessed with watching it.  Every single day after school I watched this show.

Every.

Single.

Day.

When my Mom found out that they were coming to our city in concert, she surprised me with tickets.  Check out this line up…Weird Al Yankovic, The California Raisins, and The Monkees.  No I am not kidding.

It was the mid-eighties, I think I was somewhere between 10 and 12, when we went.

I’m just glad that this was a short-lived obsession.  I’m pretty sure my angsty pre-teen move to Oingo Boingo, A-Ha, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Til Tuesday, Madonna and many others genre’s of music was shortly after this concert.

You don’t ever forget your first concert, that is for sure.

Rest in peace Davy Jones.  I hope you are having a Pleasant Valley Sunday, and are Daydream Believing somewhere behind the pearly gates.
