How Long Does it Take to Send an Email?

I have royally pissed off Mea’s Girl Scout leader.  I’m not losing any sleep over it, but I think I can say with some amount of certainty that we will never be friends.

I really try pretty hard not to get annoyed with people, particularly when they are volunteering for a job.  Like a Girl Scout Leader.  It is a little different when you are paying for a service, like gymnastics, or a sport and the leadership is crappy, compared to free leadership in the form of a volunteer parent.

She was one of those eternally happy people.  Such a cheese ball.  I think that if you punched her in the face, she would smile and say, “Ouch, that hurt a little.”  Then keep on smiling.

The leader cancelled the last meeting they were supposed to have.  It was on May 18th.  She said at the time of the email that she would be getting with all of us soon to plan their end of the year thing with the troop’s earnings from cookie sales.

I sent her a reply email that day stating that I had gotten the email, she sent it at 6:00 am on a Saturday morning, three hours before they were supposed to meet, and to let me know if she needed help planning their end of year thing, or if she would need help.

I never heard anything back from her.

I sent another email on June 7th.

Again, no response.

I sent another email on June 24th, and just stated that since she hadn’t bothered emailing me back that I would just assume that they are done with Girl Scouts.  That I was pretty disappointed that she couldn’t take a few minutes to at least communicate with me.

I did get an email back later that day.  She was kind of short with me.  They had someone pass away in their family, her son was hospitalized the beginning of June, that life came before Girl Scouts.  Stated that she had sent an email at the beginning of June to all the parents, and only heard back from the parents whose kids go to her daycare.  (I probably didn’t respond because I didn’t receive an email.  I think this woman is technologically challenged.)  That she didn’t know what she was doing, that no one from the Girl Scout Council had helped her.  Her friend who was originally the leader dumped the whole thing in her lap.  It wasn’t supposed to be her doing it alone.  I didn’t ever say that I expected Girl Scouts to come before her family.

Honestly, how long does it take to send an email?

Hypothetical email to parents…”I’m sorry things have been really crazy in my personal life, and I will get in touch with you all as soon as I can about a final meeting for the Daisy troop.  Please bear with me, and I’ll be in touch.”

That took less than a minute for me to type it.  If she had just even done this I would have understood.  She didn’t call, she didn’t reply to my emails, she didn’t return a phone call.  When she did finally answer she had lots of excuses, but she hadn’t communicated anything with anyone.

So, I emailed the council asking for the area leader’s information.  I sent her an email, and explained all of the issues, and that I would like Mea to be in another troop next year.  If no one steps forward to do it, I may just do it myself.

Received an email from the troop leader finally stating that they were planning an end of year event.  They are going to go get manicures and pedicures, and go out to lunch.  I am sure the girls will think this is fun.  I also hope that Mea isn’t the only one there besides her daughter.  There wasn’t anyone else listed on the email.  I think it’s quite possible that she thinks she emailed everyone, and only emailed me.  Just like before, when she emailed “everyone” and I wasn’t on the email.  I think she is technologically challenged.  What 30 something person doesn’t know how to send an email?  There can’t be that many.

I am ever so glad that this experience with this woman is almost to its end.

Good grief. Maybe you should forward the email to everyone else in the troop so they have it. Maybe she sent it as a blind carbon copy, but somehow with the other issues, I don’t think she has.

I think you SHOULD do it! It only seems fitting after all of our Girl Scout stuff together. Also, if you do punch this idiot try to get it on video so I can see.

That’s just rude. And I don’t care it she’s a volunteer. You paid for the troop. I would go to the council.

    I’m with Libby.
